Infratil Airports Europe: September 2006 Traffic Statistics

18 Oct 2006

Infratil Airports Europe September 2006 traffic figures have been posted on the Infratil website.

Glasgow Prestwick Airport
Glasgow Prestwick handled a total of 225,257 passengers in September against a prior year total of 224,542. Load factors were strong across all routes but particularly on those servicing Italian, German and Spanish destinations.

All Polish routes also performed well throughout the month. Ryanair announced during the month that it would start operating a five times per week service to Derry from December 5, instead of operating the Eindhoven route from October 31 as planned.

Freight volume for September showed a marked increase of 30% on the prior year, which had been adversely impacted by a Polar Cargo pilots' strike, and a 5% increase on the previous month, with 2,601,192kg handled. The month had strong performances from all scheduled carriers, and there were ten ad-hoc services.

Agreement was reached with British Airways World Cargo late in the month to operate three scheduled freighter services per week through Glasgow Prestwick Airport en route to major American hubs.

Kent International Airport

Kent International handled over 2 million kilos of freight in September, the highest amount since acquisition. The 2,052,000kg compares favourably with August's 1,959,082kg, which was also a record. Most of the freight was carried on scheduled services by MK Airlines and Egypt Air, with the throughput of both carriers increasing.

Lübeck Airport
The throughput of 61,041 passengers was 6.6% down on the prior year. With seat numbers remaining stable, the reduction was due to some softness in load factors. The softness was felt across all routes to a similar degree.
