Glasgow Prestwick Airport
Glasgow Prestwick handled 198,489 passengers in April, down 2% on April 2007 but 3% up on the performance in March.
Ryanair's services to Rome, Murcia and Barcelona were the top performers during the month, along with the six Polish services offered by Ryanair and Wizz Air.
Ryanair's Bournemouth service started operating twice daily at the beginning of the month
Glasgow Prestwick was named Best Cargo Airport (among worldwide airports which handle up to 100,000 tonnes of freight per year) at the Air Cargo News awards during the month.
Glasgow Prestwick handled 2,871 tonnes of freight in April, a marginal improvement of 10 tonnes on last April but down 14% on the March total. The adverse month-on-month variance is partly due to the fact that a Cargoitalia aircraft has gone for its major maintenance check, temporarily reducing the number of flights per week to one.
Kent International handled 3,025 tonnes of freight in April - an improvement of 820 tonnes and 37% ahead of the prior April total of 2,205 tonnes.
All scheduled freight carriers improved on their prior year performance while the number of air traffic movements increased by 17% compared with April 2007. The Airport is bracing for a reduction in May as a number of MK Airlines flights are scheduled for mainland Europe Airports.
Two Atlas Air 747 deliveries of Racing cars and other A1GP equipment passed through Kent International for the second year running in preparation for the UK leg of the global racing competition at Brands Hatch.
Lübeck Airport handled 39,894 passengers during April - 30% down on April 2007 when it handled 57,136 passengers.
The adverse variance was in line with expectation as overall passenger capacity is down against the prior year by a similar amount.
Loads on most routes were down slightly compared to the prior year, but the Barcelona and Pisa routes are showing encouraging signs for the summer period.
On May 1st Lübeck celebrated the arrival of the first Jet2.com service from Leeds Bradford. This new destination will operate three times per week. Importantly, this adds another strong Low Cost Carrier to Lübeck's customer base.
