eleven 747s visit Scotland's only 24/7 cargo airport in busy 22-hour period
Glasgow Prestwick's unique ability to provide 24/7cover to the worldwide air cargo industry was fully demonstrated on Saturday (November 20) when a total of eleven 747 freighters flew in and out of the airport.
Over a 22-hour period, the mix of scheduled freighters, fuel and military stopovers gave Prestwick Cargo Handling its busiest day of the year so far.
Scheduled freighter services from Cargolux (Los Angeles to Luxembourg), Panalpina (Guadalajara to Luxembourg), Polar Air (New York and Atlanta to Amsterdam) and British Airways (Frankfurt to Atlanta) were supplemented with incoming flights by Atlas Air.
Glasgow Prestwick Freight Director Stuart Sinclair said: "We have more scheduled 747 freighter services than all other Scottish airports put together. The increasing number of cargo aircraft using Prestwick confirms our status as the airfreight hub for all UK and Ireland."
