Infratil's September Update: Recent Developments in Wellington's Air Travel Market

15 Sep 2004

Infratil's September Update covers Wellington Airport's recent traffic growth. Since AirNZ introduced the lower-cost Express service on the domestic market in November 2002 passengers at Wellington are up 21% or almost 60,000 a month. Since Express was introduced on the Tasman in November 2003 passengers are up 18% or just over 6,000 a month. Is there room to grow from here? Over the last five years Wellington's passenger numbers are up 27%. Over the same period, Glasgow Prestwick (served by Europe's most focussed low-cost airline) has had growth of 256%. A competitive aviation market will deliver low costs and more traffic. view as PDF(620 Kb)
