15 Jun 2005
Glasgow Airport's May 2005 traffic figures have been posted on the Infratil website.
A total of 208,811 passengers used Glasgow Prestwick Airport in May 2005, a 20.2% increase on May 2004(173,700). The twelve-month rolling total now stands at 2,246,950, 10.7% up on the figure twelve months ago. The May numbers were assisted by the timing of Easter. The 2,807 tonnes of freight handled was marginally above the April 2004 result, but 9.1% below the result for May 2004. This result is consistent with the loss of a number of weekly services in the last 12 months. While loads on a number of customers are strong, Polar has advised that it will be reducing its services from 4 to 3 per week. It is understood that there is strong demand for dedicated freight aircraft for services between the US and China and for military resupply contracts. Glasgow Prestwick is a beneficiary of many military resupply flights that refuel at the airport, but these flights are not included in freight statistics unless freight is loaded or unloaded.
