16 May 2005

Glasgow Airport's April 2005 traffic figures have been posted on the Infratil website. view results

A total of 200,985 passengers used Glasgow Prestwick Airport in April 2005, an 11.8% increase on April 2004 (179,818). The twelve-month rolling total now stands at 2,211,872, 10.1% up on the figure twelve months ago.

The 2,766 tonnes of freight handled was 4.8% above the result for April 2004, the strongest comparative performance since July 2003. Ad hoc chartered freight provided much of the positive growth and included three large Antonov (AN 124) freighters carrying specialised freight. A new freight development manager has been recruited from a major airline cargo operation to implement strategies to reverse the negative trend on a permanent basis.

The upgraded landside terminal facilities and a new brand for the Airport will be unveiled on 19 May 2005. The opening of the M77 Motorway on 28 April has reduced the travel time to Glasgow to around 30 minutes and improved road safety, making Glasgow Prestwick comparatively more desirable for airlines and passengers.
