Infratil Airports Europe August 2006 Traffic Statistics

20 Sep 2006

Infratil Airports Europe August 2006 traffic figures have been posted on the Infratil website.

Glasgow Prestwick Airport
Although August was a month where security issues required a lot of attention, passenger traffic held reasonably well and freight traffic at both Kent and Glasgow Prestwick showed positive signs.

Total passenger numbers at Glasgow Prestwick were 237,276 against a prior year total of 241,359. Despite the security issues, load factors were strong across all routes, demonstrating the resilience of UK and other European travellers.

The increase in security restrictions was managed exceptionally well at Glasgow Prestwick. Management was able to respond quickly to implement new rules and disruption was minimal. A small number of flights were cancelled primarily as a result of the knock-on effects from disruption at Stansted Airport. Glasgow Prestwick was able to cope well due to the commitment of a very flexible team and strong communication and innovation. Having airport staff at all points in the process enabled resources to be directed to pinch points and extra people from across the company assisted with giving clear information to passengers and conducting bag checks prior to the security process to ease the load at the screening point.

Freight volumes were up 6% on the prior year at 2,473,096 kg against a prior year of 2,331,040 kg.

Kent International Airport
At Kent International Airport, freight has continued to grow with August being a record month with 1,959,082 kg going through the airport. A number of carriers are now regular users of KIA and this provides a good signal that both the facility and the quality of service are competitive.

Luebeck Airport
Luebeck passenger numbers were 63,972 with strong load factors on all routes.
