ENE West Kimberley Power Project Gas Supply Interruption

5 Jun 2008

The explosion at Apache Energy’s Varanus Island gas processing plant on 3 June 2008 has interrupted gas supplies to Energy Developments’ WKPP Karratha LNG plant, which has been shut down pending gas supply resumption.

Energy Developments is utilising LNG inventory stored at the Karratha LNG plant and the WKPP gas fuelled power stations, and continues to supply electricity at Broome, Derby, Fitzroy Crossing and Halls Creek in the normal course. The WKPP diesel fuelled power station at Camballin/Looma is unaffected by the gas supply interruption.

The gas supply interruption duration is unknown, and Energy Developments is continuing to communicate with Apache Energy.

Contingency plans, including sourcing alternative gas supplies and/or implementing alternative electricity generation arrangements are under review in consultation with Horizon Power and other key stakeholders.
The current Broome 60 day reliable operation test remains on foot and is at day 54 of the test. Energy Developments expects that the test will be unaffected by the current gas supply interruption.
