Glasgow Prestwick Bulgaria flights announced for 2009

31 Oct 2008

Glasgow Prestwick Airport and the award-winning Balkan Holidays have teamed up to offer flights to Bulgaria in 2009.

Holidaymakers will fly into the Black Sea coastal resort of Bourgas - only 30 minutes from Bulgaria’s largest resort Sunny Beach, and an ideal spot to experience the country’s warm summer weather and beautiful sandy beaches.

The flights will operate every Monday from June 15 until July 27 and Balkan Holidays – who last flew out of Glasgow Prestwick in 2005 – offer a wide range of resorts, accommodation and packages to suit individual needs.

Bulgaria is becoming an increasingly attractive destination among UK holidaymakers looking to make their pounds go a little further.

Despite being part of the EU, Bulgaria’s currency is the Lev making it a Euro-free zone where you can buy a beer for less than £1 and a three course meal for less than £10.

Chris Rand, Balkan Holidays Sales and Marketing Manager, said: “We are delighted to be operating from Glasgow Prestwick for summer 2009 as our holidays are very popular in Scotland.

“We look forward to working with travel agents to make this flight a success, and to offering the people of Scotland wonderful holidays from their local airport.”

Mark Rodwell, Chief Executive of Glasgow Prestwick Airport, added: “We would like to welcome Balkan Holidays back to our airport and we are excited about these flights to one of Europe’s increasingly popular destinations.

“We are confident Bulgaria and the Black Sea resorts surrounding Bourgas will prove popular among Scots looking for great value beach resorts and plenty of sunshine.”

He added: “This is further great news on the back of our recently-announced new routes, departure lounge expansion and refurbishment, and also the launch of our draft Master Plan outlining future growth.”

•Sunny Beach, Bulgaria’s largest beach resort, has a beach 8km long and 60 metres wide, so there is plenty of space.

•If you prefer something quieter, then just around the bay is the ancient town of Nessebur. You can walk its cobbled streets, relax on the beach or shop in the markets.

•At night, enjoy dinner in a seaside restaurant serving genuine Bulgarian food and local wine. There are other resorts to choose from including Sozopol and Pomorie.
