NZ Bus: Stability and certainty for bus passengers delivered until 2012

Since May, NZ Bus has been participating in negotiations with the Auckland Combined Unions to agree a new Collective Employment Agreement (CEA) for their members.

The Auckland Combined Unions is made up of the four unions representing bus drivers and cleaners who work for Metrolink, GO WEST, Waka Pacific, North Star, Link, and City Circuit bus services.

NZ Bus and the Auckland Combined Unions reached an agreement on a proposal for a CEA at mediation on Tuesday, 17 November.

At a meeting held today, the members of the Auckland Combined Unions voted to accept the offer.

The offer that was accepted today was 11.5 per cent over three years (4.2 per cent, 4.0 per cent and 3.3 per cent respectively).

Zane Fulljames, General Manager Operations said, “For negotiation to be effective, it requires two parties to come to the table.  The unions agreed to recommend the proposed CEA to their members at the ratification meeting today and we are pleased to announce that our offer has been accepted.”

“We would like to thank our customers for their patience during this time,” says Mr Fulljames.

“We are confident we have secured an agreement that meets the needs of our customers, our people, and the business,” says Mr Fulljames.  “We look forward to building constructive long term relationships with the unions as we reshape the business moving forward.”

“This agreement allows us the stability and certainty to move forward with confidence into the Rugby World Cup 2011 and beyond,” Mr Fulljames concludes.

A reminder for Monthly and Weekly Pass holders
Refunds are available for those monthly and weekly pass holders who lost the ability to use prepaid travel as a result of industrial activity in early October.

Monthly and weekly pass holders have until 30 November to apply for a refund of the seven days’ pre-paid travel lost.
