Wellington Airport April 2007 Traffic Statistics

Domestic passengers fell by 2.8% pcp in April, with seat capacity also down 2.5% on last year. Domestic seat load factors remain very strong at 75%. International passengers grew by 3.1% pcp in April. In November 2006, Air New Zealand announced significant cuts in capacity on the Tasman that would commence in April 2007, including from Wellington. This is now starting to hit, with overall international seats falling 6.2% pcp in April. Overall international load factors in April were 83%, up from 75% in April 2006, which is now reaching levels where the market must be considered constrained by capacity. With strong demand and reductions in capacity, most airlines are reporting significant increases in yields (average fares) and profitability as they update their financial results.

Wellington Airport is continuing consultations with airlines over its proposed aeronautical price increases from 1 July 2007, with Wellington Airport's proposed increase still sitting at 2.85% per annum (except for the international departure fee which is proposed to remain at $25 for adults and $10 for children aged 2-11).
